In December 2001, awards were given for the best paper submitted to the Annual Prof. Dr. Marijan Hanžeković Awards Competition. The Award Committee was composed of the Administrator of the Trust, Dr Katarina Ottas Chairperson of the Committee, Ante Čičin-Šain, Dr Predrag Bejaković, Prof. Dr. Barbara Jelčić, and Jure Šimović. During the assessment of the papers received, the Committee paid special attention to economic, legal and institutional topics considered particularly important for Croatian development.
The prize for the best paperof the year 2001, consisting of a diploma, a medal and the sum of HRK 15,000 (gross) was won by Zlatana Sikavica-Kisić of the Croatian National Bank for the paper Analysis of exchange risk and hedging in the German and French bond markets. The prize for the best student paper, consisting of a diploma and the sum of HRK 5,000 (gross) went to Mario Kraljić, student of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Zagreb, for the paper Analysis of the tax competitiveness of corporate income tax systems in the transitional countries
Apart from the prize-winning papers, several other papers that had beenentered for the competition were also selected for publication, namely articles by Josip Stanić, employed in Konzumd.d., The application of dimensional analysis to exchange rates, Ivan Šverko, of Riječka bankad.d., A possible application of the historical method of value-at-risk during risk management in the financial institutions in the Republic of Croatia and Nikola Regent, student of the Faculty of Economics and Business in Rijeka, The obligatory nature of social insurance.
